Our beginnings

The genesis of ChinaTrade LLC began in 2003, when Mr. Terry Protto partnered with Mr. Dylan Rosario, to develop their vision of an Enterprise Export Appliance technology that could revolutionize a heretofore manual process into a digital technology-based import-export processing system. More than two years of collaboration has resulted in the 2006 formation of ChinaTrade LLC to execute their vision.

Terry W. Protto,President/CEO is experienced in both Fortune 500 and entrepreneurial business ventures in China for over the past thirty years. As a senior executive in the retail industry, Mr. Protto served as President/ Retail and Corporate Vice-President for Norm Thompson Outfitters, and Division Vice President for Meier and Frank Co. (a division of May Department Stores). In his early career as a buyer for The Bon Marche
(a division of Allied Stores New York) Mr. Protto traveled to China over thirty times to design manufacturing specifications for women¡¯s apparel. Mr. Protto, additionally, is functional in the Chinese language.

In 2003 Mr. Protto (with several partners) formed American Pacific Group LLC, which purchased American-made products and then sold the products from company offices they set up in China. Mr. Protto facilitated the debut of Oregon Pinot noir wine imports into China. His acumen for working with manufacturers to launch their products into China has been touted in The Business Journal, Oregon Business. Mr. Protto was named Global Entrepreneur by Allen Roberts of Inc. Magazine and featured in the October 2005 issue. With trade offices in Portland, Oregon and Beijing, China, Mr. Protto and his China-positioned staff of thirty-five have already developed many important relationships with key officials which facilitate acquiring certifications and licenses for USA made products desiring to be sold in China.

David W. Kohl, Vice President/COO is an East Asia consultant and liaison who has been involved in creating and facilitating positive relationships between East Asia and North America all of his life. The product of a Chinese mother from a Hong Kong banking family and an American Father influential in East Asia academia, David is no stranger to cross-cultural communication. In addition to having enjoyed lifelong exposure to East Asia, David has also lived and worked in the People¡¯s Republic of China for years, developing a sense for the current dynamics of change in the region.

David received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from the University of Oregon, and after applying knowledge he gained working in the PRC, received a Master Degree in International Management, with honors, from the cutting edge program at Portland State University.

Mr. Kohl¡¯s experience and success in Mainland China as a consultant and trainer for major organizations such as the American Embassy, Jebsen and Co., Dupont, and Beijing University has created a valuable network of resources throughout East Asia. Charged by the Beijing Municipal Government and the U.S.Foreign Commercial Service to develop educational and training resources for government and corporate applications in 2002, David continues to work directly with high-level government officers, and private-sector mavens worldwide. Mr. Kohl¡¯s clients in North America include Portland International Airport, InFocus, Radysis, Anthro, Intel and Columbia Sportswear. David was a keynote speaker at the 2005 University of Oregon Law School Portland Business Innovation Convention, and also served as a panel expert for an Oregon Law Institute panel discussing advanced negotiation skills for attorneys in June of 2006. David Currently serves as a board member of the Northwest China Council, and is on the steering committee for the China Business Network.

Dylan Rosario, CIO, a former IBM Marketing Executive, has served as a Senior Technology Architect and Consultant for Fortune 500 firms. Mr. Rosario was a founding partner of one of the 'Top 100' world ranked web sites on the Internet (for traffic and visitors). As a technology guru, Mr. Rosario's expertise in integrated Enterprise class Logistics & eCommerce solutions tailored for international businesses, has given rise to his reputation as an in-demand visionary in Enterprise Application Integration (EAI).

Dylan Rosario's consulting and education firm has driven both mass market internet media and cutting edge web marketing techniques to tens-of-thousands of online businesses. His innovative and fresh approach to the web a fulcrum of international commerce provides many of his global clients with bleeding-edge business processes.

In 1998, Mr. Rosario (with several partners), built an extensive technology infrastructure in the USA, Argentina, Finnland, Russia, and Hong Kong giving them an extensive arsenal of high end resources capable of servicing hundreds of millions of users daily. This network is necessary for his firm to deliver the globally reaching 'just-in-time' technologies, that many of his clients have become strategically dependent upon.

Web-based systems

One of the most important features of the new trading environment has been the opportunities arising from the growth of web-services and in particular how the web can be used as the means to deliver goods to Chinese Buyers and help provide a visible and accountable delivery chain from manufacture onwards.  These new circumstances marked the incorporation of Enterprise Export Appliance (EEA) technology into the ChinaTrade LLC. It was time, with regard to international export logistics, for the industry to move forward from the old "do-it-yourself" approach which was simply unable to play a developing advantage for small and medium sized businesses.  We felt a better outcome was available and EEA helps deliver that objective.

For the future

The EEA solution has revolutionized the industry. China is now an open book for those individuals who desire to become a competitive market leader in the world's most populated country.  We look forward to continuing success for ourselves and our clients.
